What is Acupuncture?

Modern studies show that acupuncture works by stimulating nerve fibers, connective tissue, and the brain to release natural pain-relieving chemicals such as endorphins. Research also highlights its role in regulating inflammation, modulating the immune system, and balancing activity in the nervous system to reduce stress and restore function. While traditional Chinese Medicine describes this as the movement of qi along channels, biomedical research increasingly supports measurable mechanisms behind acupuncture’s effects on pain, mood, and overall health.

During an acupuncture session, fine, hair-like, sterile needles are gently inserted into specific points on the body based on each patient’s unique needs. These points help guide the body back into mental and emotional balance by improving circulation, calming the nervous system, and activating its natural healing response.

Rooted in Legacy

Lindsay Culbert is a licensed acupuncturist. She completed her training at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine in Sugar Grove, NC. She is currently working on her herbal certification and doctorate at Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medicine in Asheville, NC.

Lindsay is a third generation woman physician of acupuncture in her family and fourth generation herbalist. She is the first acupuncturist; her aunt and maternal grandmother were both Doctors of Chiropractic. She is very proud of being able to carry on her family’s legacy of healing whose skills and knowledge she came to fully appreciate amid her own journey to self healing from chronic illness.

Because of her self-healing journey, the connection between chronic illness/autoimmune and mental health is one of Lindsay’s chief interests, but her passion is helping empower and educate patients to take control of their own physical, mental, and emotional health with the help and support of Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

When she’s not at work or finishing schoolwork, Lindsay loves to stop at a thrift store to spot her next upcyling project, play with her two huskies, swim laps in a pool, or enter poetry contests. Symptom-free and thriving, she is focused on living a rich and abundant life.
